Laemsor Pagoda: In the grounds of Wat
Laemsor, this ornately designed Chedi (Pagoda) sits at the rocky
water's edge. Covered in countless small yellow tiles, it
appears golden when viewed from a short distance. It's at the
far South of the island off the road between Ban Tale and Ban
Pang Ka.
Butterfly Garden: Located in the south of the island, Na
Tian Butterfly Garden is a kaleidoscope of color provided by
hundreds of spectacular butterflies. For bug enthusiasts there's
also an Insect Museum, featuring rare insects from Thailand and
other countries, and a bee house, which allows the visitor to
observe the activities of bees.
Ancient house: Wood crafter and wood lovers alike can
enjoy the teakwood house at Ban Thaley. Built about a century
and a half ago without the use of nails, this oldest house on
the island features excellent carving as well.
Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo At
the aquarium you can explore the diversity of fish and undersea
creatures from the Gulf of Thailand. In the aquarium you will
have the chance to hand-feed catfish and turtles and see many
kinds of fish, including sharks, corals and other fascinating
undersea creatures. The highlight of your visit to the aquarium
are the bird and tiger shows. The birds on the show are from
Asia, such as cockatoos and several types of parrots and local
birds. The Bengal tigers and young leopards are some of the most
graceful predators on earth and will perform a spectacular show
for you. It is even possible to have your picture taken with one
of these majestic animals.
This place can be great for young children. However, if
you are an animal lover this place may be a bit hard to handle.
The aquarium and the zoo are outdated and whilst they have some
interesting fish, birds and tigers there are confined to small
spaces.
Your guide and driver will know where to find
all the nicest spots on the island. Feel free to ask him about
nice places that are not designated on the tourist maps! Most
local people are very proud of their island and would be
delighted to show you places hardly anyone ever goes to. Don't
be afraid to explore the island!
